Nipsey Hussle’s marathon continues: that of the late rapper Neighborhood Nip Foundation will participate in the 2024 Los Angeles Marathon as an official charity partner.
Hussle died in 2019 at the age of 33, and he was known as an accomplished lyricist and activist who worked to build and unite his community in South Los Angeles. The 39th edition of the LA Marathon will take place on March 17, 2024.
“We are honored to partner with the LA Marathon. It means a lot to us because it’s something Nip talked about and was interested in being a part of. He told the whole team about it and how he wanted the brand to do something with the LA Marathon, especially since it’s in LA,” said Sam Asghedom, Hussle’s brother. The Hollywood Reporter. “Nip actually wanted to run the marathon. He told us all to prepare and get in shape. That’s why it feels so good that this becomes reality.”
Hussle’s The Marathon Clothing (TMC) brand will register a team of 15 or more people for the marathon and all money raised by each runner will benefit the Neighborhood Nip Foundation, which was established in 2019 to help the community to inspire through initiatives for underprivileged young people. Hussle was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, outside his Marathon clothing store in the South Los Angeles neighborhood where he is from. He was remembered as a talented rapper, caring activist and loving father at his public memorial service at the Staples Center, and his funeral was the first in the concert arena since Michael Jackson’s in 2009. The Neighborhood Nip Foundation will begin programming in 2024 with a reconstruction of the Nipsey Hussle Plaza property, located at 3420 W. Slauson Avenue, the original location of its Marathon store. The renovated site will serve as a community center for elementary and middle school students and will focus on academics and music.
