Nintendo says it has no plans to launch a Switch Pro or another new console this year despite rumors
- Nintendo will not launch a new Switch despite rumors
- The company’s president said there are currently no plans to launch this year.
- You may still be developing a console that will launch in the future
- Previous rumors suggested that Nintendo was working on a faster ‘Pro’ model
Nintendo Switch fans will have to wait at least a year until they get a new console, according to the company’s CEO.
On Friday, Shuntaro Furukawa, president and CEO of Nintendo, said he has no plans to launch a Pro version of his best-selling gaming console, Nintendo Switch or any new console this year.
“Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe it is important to continue communicating the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base,” the company said in a statement.
“Keep in mind that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.”
Nintendo will not launch a new Switch model despite rumors that circulated last year
The official statement silences the rumors that began circulating last year, suggesting that Nintendo will begin sending a new and more powerful console in mid-2020.
The rumors began with a report from DigiTimes that claimed that Nintendo’s new console would have new chips made in China and would be faster than its current Switch iteration.
While the statement of the president of Nintendo is clear, does not rule out the possibility that the company is currently working on a new console, only if they are, it will not be launched this year.
The company has shown a certain willingness to expand its Switch brand, with a new dedicated handheld computer called Switch Lite.
Priced at $ 200, the Switch Lite is a cheaper and much smaller alternative than the Switch, which functions as a full-size console that can be played on a TV and also on a dedicated screen connected to the machine.
Nintendo also released an improved version of its Switch, although with the same brand, which has a longer battery life than its predecessor.
As The Verge noted, Nintendo may expect to release new hardware this year.
Last year, the game giant gave the Switch its first update since its launch in 2017 and the Switch Lite probably worried the company’s hardware plans.
