A ‘cheap’ bride has been slammed for her budget-friendly idea to give her guests canned pasta as wedding gifts.

The bride said she was on a tight budget and couldn’t afford anything fancy for her guests – but that didn’t stop hundreds of commenters online from slamming her “cheesy” move.

“For wedding favors, did anyone make canned foods like mac and cheese?” » asked the bride in a popular wedding planning Facebook group.

“I know it’s not very healthy, but I’m looking for something fun and off the beaten path. I just know that canned food is cheaper than wedding gifts ($0.58 vs. $3 .40$).

“I’m trying to keep costs down and honestly think a ribbon and 100 cans of food would be acceptable,” the bride wrote. “Besides, if people don’t take them, I have a stock! »

Commenters appreciated that wanting an affordable wedding was understandable, but warned she would likely be “shunned” if she went ahead with such stingy thank-you gifts.

A few revealed that there are more attractive options for budget wedding gifts.

“Instead, you could have a card at each table saying, ‘We appreciate your presence at our wedding.’ We know everyone is trying to declutter, so instead of favors, food was given in your name,” one suggested.

“My favorite wedding gift was a ‘sleeve’ of soup. The dehydrated ingredients to make a pot of soup with instructions was awesome but it was also pretty and came from a local vendor,” shared another.

A third said: “If you want something cheap that people might actually like, make some popcorn and put it in an iridescent bag. I would be thrilled if I saw a cute bag of buttered, caramel, or cheddar popcorn on my table.

Others said they wouldn’t even take home such a pathetic gift.

“This is so disgusting,” one wrote. “You can’t be serious.”

“A bow sitting on a box of spaghetti or baby potatoes would make me laugh,” one woman said.

“Why do you have to can it? Like beans? But? I thought it was corny. It’s better than the stupid shot glasses and monograms, but I think those are stupid and cheesy too. Best favor? Chocolate,” said another.

But this economic idea did not pose a problem for everyone.

“I’d probably be OK walking away with a box of stupidly monogrammed mac and cheese on something I’ll never use again,” one man said.

“In this day and age with inflation and jobs not paying a living wage, yes I would be cool with that,” added another.
