A young man is fighting for his life after being stabbed during a violent fight that broke out early Saturday, as police make nine arrests.
Emergency services were called to Mosfield Drive in Hoppers Crossing, in Melbourne’s southwest, about 3.40am and found a 23-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The nine men will be questioned by detectives and no charges have been laid.
Police are also investigating whether a second man who turned up at a Werribee hospital with suspected stab wounds is linked to the Hoppers Crossing incident.
A 16-year-old boy arrived in a black Mazda CX9 at around 4am and also suffered serious stab wounds. A police spokesman said it was unclear where the second stabbing had occurred.
On Saturday, detectives interviewed residents on the quiet Hoppers Crossing street and officers were seen combing the area around Fraser Street Reserve and a property on Spring Street.

Blood-stained rags and paper towels were seen outside a home on Spring Street.
Residents said they were awakened by a commotion around 3:30 a.m.
“I heard screams for help a couple of times and then I heard swearing,” neighbor George said. The Herald of the Sun.
“I looked out the window and there were three guys running.”
“I was a little bothered by what was happening, it’s a quiet street here. I knew something was wrong and that’s when I called the police.
Police said they do not believe any of the incidents were a random attack.
“Inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of both incidents, which police believe are focused at this stage,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
“Detectives are working to determine if both incidents are related.”
The spokesperson asked anyone who witnessed the incidents or had images or information to contact Crime Stoppers.
