The daughter of Motown legend Lionel Richie went viral in 2021, albeit for the wrong reason, after an outdoor party held in honor of her 40th birthday went awry.
In social media footage later viewed by millions, Richie leans over to blow out her birthday candles, only to recoil in horror after a stray flame sets her hair on fire.
And Richie, now 42, started her week with a painful reminder of the mistake after her husband Joel Madden reposted it on Instagram, where he has 659,000 followers.
Captioning the post, he wrote: “One of my favorite throwbacks.”

The potentially dangerous moment occurred in September 2021 after her close friend Kelly Sawyer placed the celebration cake, with a photo of Nicole as a child, in front of her while party guests sang happy birthday.
As the flames licked Richie’s carefully styled hair, hairstylist Liat Baruch is seen reaching out to brush them away.
The TV personality’s subsequent Instagram post received comments from Amber Valetta, Kelly Rowland, Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer, her brother-in-law Benji Madden and her husband Joel, who cited her Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton , writing: ‘That’s hot.’
Richie and his hairstylist Gregory Russell had spent years trying to repair his damaged locks after decades of bleaching and dying them in various shades.
And Russell hinted that it wasn’t the first time he’d accidentally burned his hair, exclaiming: ‘Stop!!! Again?!?!’
Richie recently described his return to the big screen for the first time in almost two decades as a “dream come true” after landing a role in a remake of Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.
