Nicole Kidman broke down in tears while paying tribute to her late parents at the 36th annual Palm Springs International Film Awards on Friday.
The actress, 57, spoke in an emotional speech while accepting the International Star Award from Jamie Lee Curtis.
Nicole thanked her parents for teaching her resilience and giving her the “love and strength” she needed to move forward in life.
Accepting his award on stage at the Palm Springs Convention Center, he said, “I went home for Christmas. I lost my parents and I’m in that place, like, okay, this is different now.
“They have given me resilience, they have given me love and they have given me the strength to move forward.”
Her mother Janelle tragically died just hours before she was to receive the Best Actress award for her role in Babygirl on the final day of the Venice Film Festival in September, a huge achievement.

She recalled: ‘I arrived in Venice and she was gone. I received the call. I said to Halina, “Can you come up on stage for me?”
Its director Halina Reijn read a statement from the actor, revealing that Nicole’s mother, Janelle, died at the age of 83 while she was in Venice.
Nicole continued: ‘Now I’m on stage and I’m back here. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say that this is for my mom.
‘My whole career has been for my mom and dad and they’re not here anymore. I want to continue working and giving to the world.
‘I’m sorry, I’m crying. I didn’t want to do that but I feel my mom right now. This is for your mom.
Nicole was born in Honolulu and raised in Sydney by her beloved mother Janelle and psychologist father Antony, who died in September 2014.
The actress has long had an incredibly close relationship with her beloved mother Janelle and often spoke about her support and influence on her career over the years.

“Today I arrived in Venice and shortly after found out that my beautiful and brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed away,” she said in a statement read by director Halina following her victory.
‘I’m shocked and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she formed me, guided me and made me.
‘I am beyond grateful to be able to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken. We love you all.’
After spending time in America, the Moulin Rouge star and her younger sister Antonia, 54, spent much of their childhood in Sydney.
Nicole followed her passion for acting as a teenager and her parents supported her as she rose to global fame.
They both remained closely involved with her career over the years, and Nicole recently admitted that she would still turn to her mother for advice.
In November, the Big Little Lies star said she often asked her mother Janelle for advice on her outfit, despite working with a host of professional stylists.
Nicole had a similarly close relationship with her father Antony and was devastated when he died of a heart attack in September 2014 at the age of 75 (pictured in 2005).
In a sign of their close bond, Nicole told People, “My mom is still very involved in what I wear.”
Nicole is known for her bold fashion choices, but she said it was her mother and grandmother who first fostered her love of clothes.
‘I love fashion. “I’ve always loved fashion,” she gushed while speaking at the launch of the Planet Omega pop-up in New York.
‘I grew up as a girl with a grandmother who loved fashion and knew how to sew, and so did my mother. They loved pretty clothes. “They could make nice clothes,” he continued.
‘I saw them sew, embroider and knit. And I think when you grow up watching people from home do that, then you love it.”
