A police officer is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer just months after giving birth to his first child.
Detective Sergeant Nicole Finch, from Sydney, was on maternity leave after giving birth in August when she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
NSW Police are rallying around her to help raise funds to support her while she undergoes treatment.
“(She is) undergoing urgent treatment in hospital,” Inspector Alison Beeche wrote in a NSW Police Fundraising Page.
“Funds raised will go directly to support Nicole’s treatment, provide much-needed support to her family and establish a brighter future for her son.”
Fundraising It has been shared hundreds of times since it was released on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant Kim’s sister, Kim, shared an update on her brother’s treatment on Tuesday, revealing that the family is grateful for the support from friends and the community.
“Round two: here we go,” he wrote on Facebook.

Members of the Sloths Dragonboat Racing Club in Pyrmont, where the detective sergeant is a competitive rower, have also rallied to support the cause.
Fellow rower Andrew Chan urged community members to help support her as she faces the fight of her life.
“She is the 23rd member of the successful Open crew, while Nic drummed throughout the season,” he wrote.
“If you can, please support her and her family!”
Former police officer Anthony Loxley also urged members of the public to help Detective Sergeant Finch during this difficult time.
“Help this great mother and police sergeant if you can,” he wrote.
The fundraiser has attracted more than $16,700 in 24 hours, crushing its $5000 goal.
