Nicolas Cage’s son Weston has pleaded not guilty to assaulting his mother Christina Fulton during an alleged mental health crisis.

Weston, 33, faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly attacked his mother in April.

Christina was present at the court hearing and told TMZ that she believes her son needs help.

Weston, in turn, replied: “She needs help” regarding her mother as she left the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

Earlier this month, Christina broke his silence on the alleged attack.

The confrontation between Weston and Fulton occurred on April 28 in the Los Angeles area, when a verbal dispute reportedly turned physical.

“On April 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help him,” Fulton said in a statement obtained by People.

“By the time I arrived to offer support and comfort, he was already in the throes of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally attacked and sustained serious injuries,” she said.

“Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental health evaluation, the police officers denied my request.”

Fulton added in her statement: ‘As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned by Weston’s ongoing mental health crisis.

“It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs,” he concluded.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Weston was booked Wednesday for assault with a deadly weapon, just weeks after his mother was seen with severe bruising on her face.

The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed to People that the arrest was made in direct connection to the alleged altercation on April 28.

Police told People: “During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injuries. The Los Angeles Police Department responded and after meeting with all parties, a police report was completed.”

Weston turned himself in and was arrested at the 77th Precinct station in Los Angeles, according to People.

Weston’s case was filed with prosecutors on May 10, and on June 26, prosecutors filed two counts of assault with a deadly weapon against him. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

The actor was released on $150,000 bail around 10 a.m. The US Sun It was reported that his father is believed to have been the one who rescued him.

A source previously told The Sun of the arrest: “The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say it’s a huge shock,” a source close to the family told the outlet.

An ambulance was reportedly called to the home to check on Fulton, but she refused to be taken to the hospital. TMZ reported at the time of the alleged incident.

Investigators said Weston was already gone when police arrived at the scene and that authorities were determining whether the case would be considered felony assault.

Sources told TMZ at the time that Fulton was trying to comfort her son, who was dealing with some emotional issues.

Sources told the site that she refuted claims that the two argued and asked for privacy on the matter.

The Snake Eyes actress was spotted placing coins in a parking meter with a black eye and fading bruises on her face in April.

There he met an unknown friend, with whom he shared a hug.

The actress released a statement about the interaction with her son in May, saying: ‘Weston and I did not have any discussions prior to the incident.

‘On Sunday 28th April, several of Weston’s best friends contacted me for help as they were experiencing a mental health crisis in Weston’

“On arrival, I found my son clearly in a state of mental crisis, which in turn made for a horrible experience.”

“I have always been supportive of helping my son with his mental health issues. I am doing everything I can to ensure he continues to receive the support he needs,” Fulton added.

This isn’t the first time the National Treasure actor’s son has been in trouble with the law, as he was arrested in 2017 for driving under the influence of alcohol and a hit-and-run.

Police said he crashed into several parked cars, signs and mailboxes before crashing his car into a tree.

After being taken to the hospital, he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and held on $30,000 bail.

In 2011, he faced domestic violence charges after having a dispute with his ex-wife Nikki Williams, according to ABC News.

Weston has been treated for mental health issues in the past.

He was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital in 2011 after a violent incident in Los Angeles.

At the time, Fulton blamed the Oscar winner for her son’s mental issues, saying: “Nicolas Cage has harmed, interfered and done something absolutely horrible, and I need to go find my son,” she told Inside Edition.

“I was the one who raised Weston. I was the one who looked after him. His father was very busy working as an actor,” she said.

Fulton and Cage, 60, began dating in 1988 and welcomed Weston in 1990. The couple never married and split a year after Weston was born.

Last November, both Weston and Fulton, who launched a successful skin-care line, filed a lawsuit against Weston’s ex-wife, Hila Arounian, alleging she embezzled $100,000, engaged in a smear campaign against him and sought a “fraudulent restraining order” preventing Fulton and his family from seeing Weston’s twin daughters, Venice and Cyress.

The lawsuit documents obtained by Page Six read: “This type of defamation is part of a disturbing pattern of behavior in which Ms. Arounian levels false and malicious accusations against individuals as a means of coercion and manipulation.”

Fulton also alleges that her ex-daughter-in-law manipulated Weston into filing a restraining order against her in 2020.

At the time of the filing, neither Nicolas nor Fulton had met their twin granddaughters, who will turn four in July.

“It’s devastating not to be able to see these children. Nicolas and I have not been able to meet our two beautiful granddaughters since they were born. We are living a silent and horrible nightmare. It’s crazy, painful, hurtful, devastating.”

Weston has two older sons, Lucian, nine, and Sorin, seven, with his ex-wife Danielle, to whom he was married from 2013 to 2016.
