Injury-plagued Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has revealed when he will return to the court.

Kyrgios, 28, confirmed to a fan in an Instagram story that he hopes to “be back in a month if all goes well.”

He has played only one game in 17 months and in an interview last December he admitted that he is “exhausted” by circuit work and that in an ideal world his professional career would have already ended.

“If it was up to me, to be honest, I don’t really want to play anymore,” Kyrgios told the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast.

‘I’m exhausted, I’m tired. I have had surgery three times now that… I am only 28 years old, I always wanted to have a family and not have pain.

Kyrgios (pictured with girlfriend Costeen Hatzi) has played just one match in 17 months and in an interview last December admitted he is “exhausted” by the grind of the tour.

‘When I get up, I can’t walk without feeling pain. It is a difficult job.”

The mercurial talent, who is arguably Australia’s most polarizing athlete, withdrew from the Australian Open in January due to injury.

The one-time world number 13 ventured into commentary at Melbourne Park, where he earned plenty of applause.

He also attracted headlines for criticizing Pat Cash after the tennis legend attacked the Australian Open crowd.

Former Wimbledon champion Cash, 58, claimed crowds had become “out of control”, with raucous behavior dividing the tennis community in recent years.

Canberra posited that Kyrgios labeled the Australian hero “an old boss”.

“(It was an) absolutely stupid comment by another old boss who has no idea how marketing works or how things work nowadays,” he said.

‘You need entertainment. This generation does not have a long attention span. That’s why you see clips on Instagram rolling. They last between 15 and 20 seconds.

‘Someone like Pat Cash wouldn’t be able to grasp that concept. And I’m not going to take anything away from Pat Cash. An incredible player of his generation, but we have to continue to grow the sport for fans around the world.”

Kyrgios also recently confirmed that he is aware that his time on the ATP professional circuit is coming to an end.

“I just want to play one or two more years… be at the top and go out on my own terms,” said Kyrgios, a 2022 Wimbledon men’s singles finalist.

‘I would hate to have another surgery or something. So I think I still have the ability to spend a year or two and that’s it.

“I think I’ll be at peace with everything I’ve accomplished. I’m going to have to tell everyone who wants me to play more: ‘You’re going to have to accept that I don’t play anymore.’
