Nick Carter accused of sexual assault and battery in new lawsuit filed by singer Melissa Schumann over 2002 incident in Los Angeles
Nick Carter is facing allegations of sexual assault and battery from singer Melissa Schumann in a new lawsuit over a 2002 incident in Santa Monica, California.
The 43-year-old artist, according to the legal documents he reviewed TMZSchumann, 38, accused her of forcing her to perform and receive acts of oral sex at a time when he was 22 and she was 18.
Shoman said her first sexual experience was with Carter, the media reported, despite her insistence to him that she did not want to have sex until she was married.
The legal maneuver against the Backstreet Boys member comes more than five years after Schumann, a one-time member of the Dream group, filed a police report against Carter with the Santa Monica Police Department, but prosecutors did not file the case at the time.
In filing the new lawsuit, Schumann cited a new California bill that allows the statute of limitations to be lifted for civil suits, as she hopes the judge will review the information in the case.

“Melissa Schumann has been promoting this tale for many years, but her claims were false when they first resurfaced in 2017 — and still are,” his attorney, Liane K. Wakayama, told TMZ in a statement about the recent legal moves. “
Wakayama told the outlet, “A Nevada judge recently ruled, after reviewing the extensive evidence we presented, that there are strong grounds for Nick Carter to proceed with his lawsuit against Ms.
Carter’s attorney said the latest legal move from Schumann regarding the alleged assault is “at once predictable and pathetic” amid ongoing progress in the Nevada litigation.
It called Schumann’s latest filing a “public relations stunt” and vowed that it would not distract the singer from his determination to hold Ms. Schumann and her co-conspirators accountable for the immeasurable pain and suffering their extortionate behavior had caused.
