New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas went on the offensive against a Louisiana reporter who claimed the team would cut him.

Thomas pursued New Orleans Times-Picayune reporter Jeff Duncan, who published a column about how the Saints were about to release wide receiver.

“Funny that Jeff Duncan plans to release me if I were on a one-year deal,” Thomas tweeted. “Don’t fall for it, he’s the same guy who tried to be my friend in the season after saying I wasn’t the same player in training camp.”

Not content with a single tweet, Thomas continued: ‘Jeff Duncan is trying to stay relevant, so let’s talk about it.

‘The Saints leak information to try to ruin the value of the players, but look, I’m not broke to be able to talk about it. It’s ruined so it needs clicks. Go look at all his articles that never end up being true.’

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas attacked a reporter on Twitter

He went after reporter Jeff Duncan for saying the Saints were going to cut him even though Thomas only signed with New Orleans on a one-year deal at the start of the 2023 season.

By announcing they will cut him, the Saints would avoid paying Thomas a $2.2 million bonus

Thomas then found a photo of Duncan online and posted it with the caption: “Look at this (clown emoji), everyone thinks he knows how to play, yeah right.” They actually click on the links to what he writes.

Last season, the Saints signed Thomas to a one-year, $10 million contract, but cutting him now would prevent him from earning a guaranteed $2.2 million roster bonus.

In 2023, Thomas played in just 10 games after suffering a knee injury in a Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings that caused him to miss the rest of the season.

Thomas is a former NFL Offensive Player of the Year who caught for 1,725 yards and had an NFL record 149 receptions in the 2019 season.

But since then, he has only played 20 games over the course of four seasons due to injuries.

Last season, he caught just one touchdown and 448 yards on 39 receptions.

Later reports said Thomas would be released by the Saints on March 13, the first day of the 2024 league year.
