The National Football League has been rocked by an unexpected death: ex-NFL star Chris Smith gave his life for reasons unknown. He was only 31 years old.
His spokesman confirmed his death on Tuesday. “Rest in paradise Chris Smith. Hometown hero and brother to all. Such a kind soul. This is heartbreaking,” tweeted Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.
Smith had played a total of eight seasons in the NFL, in addition to the Browns, including for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans (until 2021).
In March 2023 he signed with the American minor league football team Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL.
Smith lost his partner Petara Cordero in 2019. She died in a car accident in Cleveland. Their daughter had only seen the light of day a few weeks earlier.
