Week 8 of the regular season was packed, but Jayden Daniels stole the show with what should undoubtedly go down as the play of the year as he led the Washington Commanders to a miraculous victory over the Chicago Bears.
Aside from that Hail Mary, however, several starting quarterbacks suffered injuries across the league on Sunday. Here’s a look at the latest news, injury updates and more around the NFL as Week 8 concludes.
Packers QB Jordan Love leaves with groin injury
The Green Bay Packers were victorious on Sunday afternoon, but lost quarterback Jordan Love in the process.
Love left their 30-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third quarter on Sunday after taking an awkward blow to the back after the whistle. He was slow to get up after the play and then was replaced by Malik Willis with what the Packers called a groin injury.
Love’s future status is unknown, but coach Matt LaFleur said after the game that “there’s obviously a high level of concern.” The Packers will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday afternoon. If Love isn’t ready for that critical NFC North matchup, Willis will be the starter.
Patriots QB Drake Maye out after hitting head
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye left their win over the New York Jets early after being shot in the head Sunday afternoon.
Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood made helmet-to-helmet contact with Maye from behind as Maye slid into a scramble. Sherwood was not awarded a penalty, but Maye went to the medical tent and was then ruled out for the rest of the game with a head injury. Jacoby Brissett took over and led the Patriots to a 25-22 victory.
Maye is now in the concussion protocol and it is unclear when he will be able to return to the Patriots. They will face the Tennessee Titans next week. If Maye has not cleared the protocol in time, Brissett will likely be the starter. Brissett was the Patriots’ starting quarterback at the start of the season, but Maye took over earlier this month.
Stefon Diggs evaluated for knee injury
Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs suffered a non-contact knee injury in their narrow win over the Colts on Sunday afternoon.
Diggs’ right knee bent awkwardly as he planted himself while running a route in the second half, sending him to the turf in pain before he eventually left for the locker room. He did not return and is now being evaluated. Details about his knee injury are not yet known, but it was not looking good.
Diggs had five catches for a team-high 81 yards when he went down. The Texans also have a short week, as they face the New York Jets on Thursday night.
