NFL fines Bears lineman hefty sum for hitting 49ers QB Purdy originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

After Brock Purdy suffered a brief injury scare Last weekend, the NFL held the player responsible for the departure of the 49ers quarterback accountable.

Bears pass running back Darrell Taylor was fined $16,883 for his hit on Purdy in the third quarter of San Francisco victory 38-13 about Chicago. Taylor made contact with Purdy’s neck while clumsily throwing him to the ground after the quarterback had already released the ball.

Purdy missed just one play, returning to the field as he continued to tear down the Bears’ defense to the tune of 325 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover in San Francisco’s blowout victory.

Taylor, originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, spent four seasons in the NFC West before joining Chicago in a one-year, $3.1 million contract in the low season.

The NFL has made protecting its quarterbacks a priority, and the fine imposed on Taylor appears to reinforce that message after his brutal hit on Purdy.
