PARIS — Neymar underwent surgery on Friday to repair damage to his right ankle and will miss the rest of the season, Paris Saint-Germain said.
The 31-year-old Brazilian striker “was successfully operated this morning at the Aspetar Hospital in Doha,” the club, which receives Qatari funds, said in a statement.
Neymar is expected to be out for at least four months.
“The player will now follow the rest and treatment protocol,” PSG added.
Neymar was injured on February 19 in the 4-3 win against Lille. He also injured his right ankle in Brazil’s first World Cup game in Qatar, but the striker was able to return.
The Brazilian has missed time with foot, groin, rib and ankle injuries since joining PSG for a record €222 million ($262 million) from Barcelona in 2017.
