Horror as a woman, 20 is reportedly raped with a knife by a stranger who broke into her bedroom in the middle of the day

A man who allegedly raped a woman with a knife in her bedroom in broad daylight has been released on bail.
Jonah Somasundaram, 20, appeared via video link in Newcastle Local Court on Saturday after being arrested at a home in North Lambton just after 4pm on Friday.
Police say he broke into a house in the same suburb at 3:20 p.m. Thursday while armed with a knife and threatened a 20-year-old woman in her bedroom.

The woman screamed to try to warn the neighbors of the intruder, but the man allegedly grabbed her and sexually assaulted her.
The alleged victim then told her roommates who called the police.
A crime scene was established and the police launched Strike Force Oorin to investigate, receiving help from the Child Abuse and Sex Crime Division of the State Command.
After his arrest, Somasundaram was charged with four charges of aggravated sexual abuse: causing actual bodily harm to the victim with a weapon, burglary, robbery armed with an offensive weapon, sexually touching another person without consent and reckless injury.
He was released on bail and will appear in court again on August 2. Newcastle news reported.
