A block of units in Newcastle has suffered extensive fire and water damage after a “petrol bomb” was reportedly thrown at the front door.
Firefighters rushed to Brunker Road in Adamstown just before 6pm on Monday after the door to a unit on the third floor caught fire.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the exterior of the building and carried out “rescue work” on all three levels.
An automatic sprinkler system was activated in the block and caused water damage from the third floor to the ground floor.
Four Fire and Rescue NSW tankers were sent to the unit block, along with a rehabilitation van, to help put out the fire.
Crews handed the scene over to police after the fire was extinguished at 8 p.m.
Investigations into the circumstances of the fire continue.
Anyone with information about the fire is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
