The Dutch international was their main target this window, but they face fierce competition from AC Milan.
However, Lille are now looking to accept Newcastle’s offer of around £34million as the clubs continue to work on a deal.

Botman, a Holland Under-21 international, is highly regarded and could add more defensive stability to a Newcastle side that conceded 62 goals in the Premier League last season.
Botman joined Lille in 2020 on a five-year contract and made 79 appearances for the French club.
A product of the Ajax academy, he was on loan at Heerenveen before signing for Newcastle.
