Newcastle have opened talks with Crystal Palace over the signing of England international Marc Guehi, according to a report.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a possible exit from Selhurst Park in recent years but his reputation has been enhanced by his performances at the European Championships.
Guehi, whose contract with the Eagles expires in 2026, is wanted by several top European clubs this summer and a move to Newcastle would represent a major coup for Eddie Howe’s side.
According to The Athletic, the Magpies made their approach for the defender this week.
Guehi made 25 Premier League appearances for Palace last season, missing a total of 12 games due to a knee problem.

The 24-year-old has made 11 appearances for Palace in all competitions since joining in 2021.
The signing of the 24-year-old would be a major coup for Eddie Howe’s side ahead of the campaign.
He timed his recovery perfectly to partner John Stones in the England defence in Germany and started six of the team’s seven games, with his only absence coming in the quarter-final win over Switzerland due to suspension.
Newcastle have added Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos to their squad this summer, while Lewis Hall’s loan has been made permanent and they have also agreed a deal to sign William Osula from Sheffield United.
The Magpies came close to bolstering their defensive ranks earlier in the summer when Joe Gomez was included in negotiations between them and Liverpool over the signing of Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Gomez developed after they initially approached Liverpool in early June to ask if the Anfield club had any interest in purchasing Anthony Gordon or Alexander Isak for PSR purposes.
Liverpool dismissed the £100m asking price and, as Mail Sport exclusively revealed, Newcastle enquired about Quansah. The request was rejected, but Newcastle subsequently proposed a price of around £80m for Gordon.
Oliver Glasner is preparing for his first full season as Palace manager after an impressive end to last season.
Newcastle were involved in talks earlier this summer that would have seen Joe Gomez move to St James’ Park.
Again, that was rejected but as Amanda Staveley and Newcastle ownership pushed for PSR solutions, Mail Sport sources revealed that chief executive Darren Eales has returned with a proposal to buy Gomez for £45m and sell Gordon to Liverpool for £75m.
Palace, meanwhile, have already strengthened their defence with the signing of Chadi Radi from Real Betis ahead of Oliver Glasner’s first full season in south London.
