- Korfball players were looking for dance moves
- Fans are embarrassed by Fern’s routine
- Dancing is part of the Fast5 tournament
The New Zealand netball team has been roasted for an ’embarrassing’ dance routine ahead of their match at the Fast5 Netball World Series in Christchurch.
Australia clinched back-to-back titles after a crushing 35-23 win over New Zealand to clinch the 2023 title on Sunday.
The Diamond’s second World Series title in a row, comprising six teams and eighteen matches over two days, drew the curtain on the international netball calendar for the year.
Unlike normal netball, Fast5 has only five players on each team, six-minute quarters and two- and three-point shots.
Fast5 is a bit like the Big Bash of netball, the tournament features fireworks, bright uniforms, loud music and choreographed team dances.
Commentators on the dance clip were less than impressed with the Kiwi’s moves ahead of their match against Jamaica, calling it ’embarrassing’.
‘Is this an eisteddfod or a sporting event? What happened in sports?,” replied an X user.
“Ultimate shame,” replied another.
“Stop posting this. It’s embarrassing,” said a third.
The Australian men’s netball team, who also took part in the tournament, selected the Nutbush as their pre-match dance routine – which received a mixed reception online.
“If you’re a guy who plays netball, that’s fine. If you are a man who plays netball and dances on the Nutbush before an international match, then there is something wrong with you upstairs. I would be embarrassed and I wouldn’t want my kids to see that,” one fan wrote.
Other fans agreed: “Okay, this is the best thing I’ve seen today. Aussie men’s netball team doing the Nutbush pre-game’.
The Australian men’s team was defeated 51-34 by consecutive champions New Zealand in the final.

Diamonds captain Matilda Garrett was very pleased with the team’s performance over the weekend.
“It was a great experience,” Garrett said.
‘This is my first time at Fast5 and when you look out at the crowd and see all the amazing outfits, it’s such a great atmosphere.
“It’s such a good week with all the girls lined up along that line, and I’m already looking forward to next year.”
