The indictment remained sealed Wednesday night, confidential sources told The New York Times, while its contents remain unknown.

However, when the charges are made public, Adams will become the first New York City mayor to be criminally charged while still in office.

The retired police captain previously campaigned on a tough-on-crime stance, and his office has yet to comment on the looming indictments.

The Times was the first to report the allegation, with reporters writing that “people with knowledge of the matter” confirmed its existence. The paper also said the feds declined to comment.

The report comes just days after federal authorities targeted some of the mayor’s top allies.

Officers raided the homes of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks at 5 a.m. earlier this month. in a series of raids that for now remain secret.

Both officials reportedly had their electronic devices confiscated, as Adams did in November, when his phone and laptop were taken after a raid at the home of his campaign treasurer, Brianna Suggs.
