A man and his pregnant girlfriend were shot and killed while their two-year-old daughter was nearby, and another woman was injured in a house invasion on Staten Island on Monday afternoon.
New York City police detained a man from Staten Island in connection with the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Alafia Rodriguez and his girlfriend, Ana DeSousa, 33.
Philip Moreno, 43, of Port Richmond was taken into custody by police when he left home just after 5 p.m. at 376 Grandview Avenue, according to The Staten Island Advance.

The couple, who had been together for three years, had a two-year-old daughter who was found unharmed in the house
Police said DeSousa was pregnant when she was murdered
Police found a .22 caliber semi-automatic Ruger pistol in his possession, according to AMNY.
Researchers also discovered a silencer on the site.
Agents responded to reports of gunshots from the house.
When the police arrived, they found the bodies of Rodriguez and DeSousa, WNYW-TV reports.
Both were pronounced dead after receiving multiple gunshot wounds, the researchers said.

Police said DeSousa was pregnant. The two had been dating for about three years, according to reports.
A two-year-old girl, believed to be the couple’s daughter, Blue, was found unharmed in the house. She was rushed to a nearby hospital.
An unidentified 43-year-old woman was shot in the trunk, although she is expected to survive.
The woman was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center in the West Brighton section of Staten Island, according to police.
She was reported in critical condition after having emergency surgery on Monday evening.

Moreno, the suspect, has a long criminal history.
He spent 14 years in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility with maximum security after pleading guilty to manslaughter in 1992 when he shot a 22-year-old man.
He has also been arrested and convicted of various weapons and drug offenses.
Moreno has recently been released on parole, according to authorities.
“The situation at the moment is fluid,” said Moreno’s lawyer, said Mark Fonte.
“I stopped my client’s questioning.
“My office is trying to assess the facts and determine what happened.”
Investigators are still trying to determine the motive of the shootings.
Police said they had discovered narcotics and paraphernalia in the home.
