The New York Jets organization is contemplating “tightening” the leash on Aaron Rodgers following his inexcusable absence from practice this week.
The quarterback, who faces more than $100,000 in fines, skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp in favor of a mystery ‘event’ he wanted to attend.
“The Jets organization and coaching staff are trying to make it seem like Aaron’s absence was no big deal, but they are angry that Aaron didn’t show up to mandatory training camp,” a source close to the team told Mail Sport in Wednesday.
“It is a monstrosity for the team that will only be forgotten if it wins this season and Aaron plays and does not get injured again,” they continued.
“But until then, everything Aaron does from this point forward will be scrutinized and scrutinized more because he’s supposed to be the captain and the way he does business is supposed to be the way the Jets want things to happen.”

Rodgers has been involved in the team’s offseason practices over the past few weeks and was at the Jets’ practice facility on Monday before skipping Tuesday’s mandatory workout.
Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Rodgers told him he would miss practice in advance, however, he continued to fuel speculation by telling reporters that his absence was due to an event “that was important to him.”

Saleh was mocked for claiming that Rodgers’ absence was due to a “life event” without giving details.
Rodgers reported his upcoming absence to his coach, but he is still likely to be fined.
Pat McAfee and his team mocked Saleh’s comment, suggesting he should have left the reason for Rodgers’ lack of practice out of the news conference without elaborating.
‘I just do not know. “I haven’t spoken to any sources close to the situation with the Jets quarterback,” McAfee said.
‘What is the event of life? Because obviously Saleh heard it and said, “No, I don’t think so.”
Later in the show, Rodgers’ friend AJ Hawk joined in and said, “I have no idea where he could be.” The opportunities are endless.’
Hawk continued: “I could be anywhere on the planet right now.” We don’t know what that could be. Google “interesting things will happen in the next three days.” It may be there. I have no idea where it is either.
