Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil selected the perfect song to start the new MLB season in New York City.
The Mets opened their 2024 season against the Milwaukee Twins at Citi Field in Queens on Friday after rain postponed their opening day.
McNeil revealed that he is a Swiftie while walking into his first at-bat to the infamous tune of one of Taylor Swift’s biggest hits from her album, ‘1989,’ in front of the home crowd of New Yorkers.
The 31-year-old chose ‘Welcome to New York’, the opening track from the pop megastar’s fifth studio album, to open his new season.
Naturally, McNeil’s song selection proved to be a crowd-pleaser at the New York stadium.

The 31-year-old selected the pop superstar’s ‘Welcome to New York’ from her album ‘1989’.
McNeil’s song selection was well received by the crowd at Citi Field in Queens.
It marks a big change for McNeil, who had previously used ‘Rock of Ages’ for his walk-on music throughout his MLB career.
However, later in the game, McNeil was not so optimistic as he was left furious by a confrontation with the Twins’ Rhys Hoskins.
McNeil was upset by a late slide by the first baseman toward second base that completely took out the Mets star.
McNeil quickly got up and was captured on broadcast screaming in the face of Hoskins, who was still on the ground.
The altercation caused the benches to clear, but no punches were thrown and, as a result, no expulsions occurred. Review of the video later ruled that it was a legal slide by Hoskins.
