An organizer of a gay new year’s Eve party was unable to sell enough tickets due to ‘critical safety concerns’. 

The Wild Hearts festival was scheduled to begin on December 31 at Lismore Showgrounds. It will be followed by a recovery party that will take place into January 2, 2023.  

Tropical Fruit Inc sent their ‘deepest regrets’ on Friday as the shindig that celebrated “hearts that can’t be tamed” was cancelled.

‘It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of our flagship New Year’s “Wild Hearts” Festival for 2022,’ the announcement read. 

“Unfortunately,” the event is no longer viable due to lower than expected ticket sales and high production costs.

“We understand the consequences of this decision on our community and we ask that you accept our deepest apologies.”

The event was to include a camping ground for ticket holders, a cabaret performance, and all-night dance music on three floors. 

It would have also hosted a’smashing lineup of DJs’ as well as NYE fireworks. 

The organisation stated that festival-goers who purchased tickers would be contacted in the near future regarding credits or refunds.

“We are fully aware of the consequences this decision will have in our community. We hope that you can accept our sincere apologies,” the Tropical Fruit organizers said.

The Cancellation Comes After Organisers For The Group In The Nsw Northern Rivers' Region Told Fans The Nye Event Was 'Definitely Going Ahead'

After organizers from the NSW Northern Rivers’ region had told fans that the NYE celebration was going ahead, the cancellation was made.

It comes after organisers for the LGBTIQ+ community group in the NSW Northern Rivers’ region told fans the NYE event was ‘definitely going ahead’.

This was despite the fact that the group was a bit behind schedule due to the extreme flooding in Lismore last February. 

After suffering a flood of one in 100 years in 2017, the town was devastated by a record-breaking flooding five years later.

It came after earlier floods in 1989. 1974. 1954. Although a levee was built after 1999, it did not stop rising waters in the 2000s.

The community witnessed horrifying scenes of people trapped on their roofs and desperate social media requests for help.

Nearly 1000 rescues were performed in the northern rivers region, with the inland city witnessing a staggering 130 floods over the past 150 years.

This feat earned the town the title of the most flood-prone postcode in the country.
