Alert for new WhatsApp update that allows friends to see EVERYTHING on your screen
- WhatsApp has introduced a popular video calling feature called Screen Share
- The function, which is already offered by some video platforms, will be implemented soon
- But be careful before clicking ‘Share’ as your friends will be able to see everything.
WhatsApp has implemented a number of changes in recent years to improve the user experience.
Users can now react to messages, create their own stickers, block private chats, and even edit their own messages.
And there are more updates to follow. One of them is the new ‘Screen Sharing’ feature that allows your WhatsApp contacts to see everything on your smartphone screen.
The company announced the major update last week, but it’s not as scary as it sounds.
Mark Zuckerberg (pictured above left) posted about the new update and shared a sneak peek at what the new ‘Screen Sharing’ feature will look like.
The introduction of ‘Screen Sharing’ is simply intended to allow users to display snippets of the websites they are browsing, the documents they are viewing, or even show how to access features in the app or device.
Many apps, such as Google Meet, Microsoft Meet, Zoom, and Apple’s FaceTime, already offer the basic feature and use it for traditional video conferencing.
Explaining more about the update, Meta said in a press release: “Whether it’s sharing documents for work, looking up photos with the family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with technical support , screen sharing allows you to share a live view of your screen during the call.’
Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg posted about the new update on social media and shared a photo of himself in a WhatsApp group call where someone was sharing their screen.
As soon as it rolls out in the next few weeks, users will see a ‘Share icon’ on the app and once they press it, they’ll have the option to share a specific app or their entire screen.
Although it sounds useful, just make sure you hide anything you don’t want others to see before you start sharing your screen.
Meta also added that users can make video calls in landscape format from their phones for a more expansive and convenient viewing experience.
WhatsApp first introduced the video calling feature in 2016, it has been adding new features ever since to differentiate itself from other basic messaging platforms.
Last month, Meta announced that it would allow users to send short, 60-second video messages directly into chats.
The app explained: ‘Voice messages on WhatsApp changed the way people communicate by providing a fast and secure way to share your voice. We are excited to roll out this feature with new instant video messages. Now you can record and share short personal videos right in the chat.’
