Modern master Jordan Peele is cooking up some Christmas horror for his next movie.
According to a report in The Wrap, writer-director next mind blowing it will be released on Christmas Day 2024.
No details about the title, plot, or cast were revealed, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if frequent collaborator Daniel Kaluuya ends up involved with whatever spooky Christmas present Peele has in mind.
Like Peele’s three previous films, “Get Out,” “Us” and “Nope,” Universal Pictures will release the new one. The studio will also release an untitled horror/thriller from Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions a few months earlier, on September 27, 2024. The production company currently has three projects appears as “coming soon” on their website. Past productions include Amazon’s “Hunters,” HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” “BlacKkKlansman” and a remake of “Candyman.”
Peele has become a sure thing in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success. Peele’s three feature releases have surpassed $170 million at the box office. Get Out earned four Oscar nominations, including a win for Best Original Screenplay. He signed a five-year deal with Universal in 2019.
The scope and ambition of his films have also grown with each subsequent release.
“(Going to see a movie in theaters) taught me to love cinema,” Peele Peel told The New York Times last year while pressing “Nope”.
“So I just wanted to make a movie that people would have to go to the theater to see.”
Peele’s latest isn’t the only (probable) tent pitching around Christmas next year. “Avatar 3” and a third entry in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise are also slated to compete at the holiday box office with releases scheduled a few days before Peele’s project. In early March, Universal postponed the first half of its adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked” to Thanksgiving 2024.
