The New Orleans Saints are reportedly interested in hiring Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

The Saints are currently searching for a new head coach after firing Dennis Allen in November.

Special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Darren Rizzi took over midseason and would also be a candidate for the full-time position.

But Nagy, who returned to Kansas City after being released by the Chicago Bears in 2021, is drawing interest just days before the playoffs begin.

According to The Athletic Dianna Russini, Chiefs fans can expect the Saints to show interest in Nagy.

He also reports that Rizzi will be given the opportunity to land the head coaching job on a permanent basis.

Nagy, a two-time Super Bowl champion, served as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017 after two years as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

But the Bears fired him in 2021 after a 6-11 season, and he returned to the Chiefs as senior assistant/quarterbacks coach.

However, he regained the offensive coordinator job when Eric Bieniemy left for the same position in Washington in 2023.

It comes just days after Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo admitted he wants to be an NFL head coach again.

Spagnuolo is highly respected in Kansas City and has played a central role in the team’s run to two consecutive Super Bowl titles.

But, speaking as the Chiefs finalize their preparations before the playoffs, Spagnuolo hinted that he sees his future outside the organization.

When asked if he would ever want a chance as a head coach, he said, “I’ll deal with that later.”

‘The answer is yes, but now it’s all about Denver (the Chiefs play the Broncos on Sunday). I’ll let all that take care of itself.

Spagnuolo’s comments will undoubtedly put many teams on alert, coming at a time when several NFL vacancies are expected to become available in the offseason.

The New York Jets, Saints and Bears have vacancies available. There is scrutiny on Brian Daboll on the New York Giants and Antonio Pearce on the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, is also nearing the end of his contract.

But there is a slim chance there will be a vacancy in Kansas City. Last year, head coach Andy Reid, 66, put an end to retirement rumors by signing a new five-year contract to stay.
