New Jersey has been hit by a strong aftershock, hours after the Garden State and New York City were rocked by a 4.8 earthquake.

Residents in the tri-state area reported the shaking around 6 p.m. ET on Friday. New York Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy confirmed the commotion in X.

He wrote: “We just felt what we assume is a small aftershock in New York City of today’s earthquake.”

He said he was waiting for more confirmation about its magnitude.

It came as New Yorkers are already selling shillings on merchandise advertising Friday’s earthquake, in one of the fastest merchandise shifts in recent history.
