New Girl actress Zoe Lister-Jones comes out as ‘queer’ as she debuts romance with nonbinary filmmaker Sammi Cohen… following divorce from Daryl Wein

New Girl actress Zoe Lister-Jones came out as “queer” over the weekend and debuted her romance with a non-binary filmmaker.

The 41-year-old performer broke the news at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which she attended with her new lover.

“I’m here, I’m queer, I’m kind of scared, but I’m getting over it,” Zoe shared with The Hollywood Reporter while at the awards ceremony.

She is currently dating Sammi Cohen, the director of the Netflix comedy You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, which stars Adam Sandler with his wife Jackie and daughters Sadie, 17, and Sunny, 15.

During her Spirit Awards evening, Zoe praised Sammi, whom she glowingly described as “an incredible filmmaker in his own right.”

Zoe and Sammi previously attended the Art Directors Guild Awards together in Hollywood on February 10, weeks before Zoe confirmed their romance.

Sammi identified himself as “a very progressive, nonbinary, queer Jew,” in a Jewish newspaper interview promoting “You’re Not So Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

The latest announcement about Zoe’s love life comes a year and a half after she filed for divorce from her husband Daryl Wein, who is also a filmmaker.

Over the 17 years they were involved, Zoe and Daryl worked together on films such as Breaking Upwards, Band Aid and How It Ends.

They co-wrote the 2012 film Lola Versus, which Daryl directed and Zoe starred with leading lady Greta Gerwig, who had not yet begun directing herself.

In 2021, about eight years after getting married, Zoe told Marc Maron on his WTF podcast that she and Daryl had broken up.

She revealed that she and her husband had been in and out of an open relationship before going their separate ways.

Zoe confessed that the arrangement was made difficult by the fact that she was “constantly” jealous when he slept with someone else.

In September 2022, she finally filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and giving February 1, 2021 as the date of separation, according to TMZ.

During his last conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe noted: ‘I’m still very close to my ex-husband. “We made a lot of movies together.”

He also mentioned his relationship with Sammi while boasting about Film Independent making its acting awards categories gender neutral.

‘I’m very grateful to Film Independent for really being pioneers in that area. “All awards shows should follow in their footsteps and make the categories genderless,” Zoe said.

‘I’m dating a non-binary person. I’m friends with a lot of non-binary people. And I think without really changing the paradigm more broadly, a lot of doors are being closed to really important voices,” he added.
