New Cybertruck owners are re-selling EVs for more than $200,000 – as Tesla threatens to cancel orders and issue $50,000 fines

A new owner posted on the Cybertruck Owners Club message board on Sunday saying that Tesla had contacted him after putting his vehicle up for sale.

His two remaining reservations have since been canceled, and the potential Cybertruck flipper may have been banned from making future Tesla purchases, according to an email he shared from Tesla.

The owner of the Cybertruck is an IT manager named Dennis from Arizona, according to his Cybertruck Owners Club profile.

He is not the first to try to sell the new electric truck for a profit, which has a long waiting list.

Dennis of Arizona also claimed to have listed the truck on several sites “for testing” and claimed he had not sold it yet.

He wrote on the message board that he assumed Tesla had found his Car Gurus listing, which included his car’s VIN.

‘I put it on a ridiculous list because I thought it was funny. $242,069,” she wrote.

There were no other listings for a Cybertruck with the same VIN on other auto listing sites at the time.

Dennis said he had booked two more Cybertrucks, which are now reportedly cancelled.

He wrote that he received refunds for them, but a Tesla store leader warned him that if he tried to make more reservations, they would be canceled without refunds, according to an email he shared on the car club forum:

‘In the future, any future orders you place will be cancelled. without “You have been provided a refund of the $100 reservation fee of the $250 order fee as you have been provided with official notification regarding this matter,” the message read.

The listing for Dennis’ Cybertruck was still active on the Car Gurus website as of Monday. However, he had lowered the price by $50,000.

At least 20 different Cybertrucks are for sale online, most at around $200,000, several times the car’s retail price.

One commenter noted that the would-be Cybertruck flipper was lucky that Tesla had not remotely disabled his vehicle.
