Shopper surprised by ‘infuriating’ detail on supermarket’s new Ritz biscuit boxes: ‘It’s not fair’

A customer was furious after he noticed a slight change in boxes of Ritz biscuits while at their Coles store.

Sharing a photo on Twitter, the shopper compared the size of two boxes – one old box holding 300g and the newer box holding 227g.

Despite the change in size, the woman claims the price has remained the same and other shoppers have been urged to alert them.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Mondelez, the company behind the Ritz crackers, for comment.

Others joined the conversation and could not believe that the price had not changed.

“Do they really think we won’t notice?” Someone wrote, and another said: “Prices have gone up, quantities have gone down.”

A third added, “She also noticed this and was unimpressed… At the end of the day, the customer was unhappy, so I’m not sure what marketing tactic is being used here.”

The cost of living crisis has deepened in Australia as inflation reached a 32-year high of 7.8 per cent.

The consumer price index rose in the year through December at the fastest annual pace since the March 1990 quarter, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers calling it “unacceptably high”.

This means that another rate hike on February 7 is almost certain with the headline inflation rate well above the Reserve Bank’s target of 2 to 3 percent.
