A new theory about the popular Australian animated children’s show Bluey has caught the attention of fans.
According to one eagle-eyed viewer, the animated series centered on an adorable family in blue heels is set in the early 2000s.
And the same fan also claims that they have discovered the “ages” of the characters based on story details.
Since the show first debuted in 2018, fans have been wondering the age of Bandit, who is father to seven-year-old Bluey and five-year-old Bingo.
The two child characters have only had one birthday on the show in six years, causing fans to ask online the exact year the show takes place.
Sharing his thoughts on Adult Bluey’s Facebook page, the viewer posted crucial ‘clues’ to support his theory after watching the season three finale, Surprise.

According to one eagle-eyed viewer, the animated series centered on an adorable family in blue heels is set in the early 2000s.
“I’ve had a theory for a while now and the Surprise episode has made me lean more towards it. “I think Bluey takes place in the early 2000s,” the fan said in the post.
‘Reason 1: Bandit talks about growing up in the ’80s as a kid.
‘He could have been born in the late 70s and early 80s. That would put him in his late 20s in the early 2000s. Which is the average age of a father with children his age.
‘Reason 2: Technology. In this last episode people talk about a jump to the future, but I think it jumps to the present time.’
‘All its electronics are up to date. They have quite a few products that look like they are from Amazon; an echo point, an echo show and a chime. They also have a robot vacuum cleaner (which doesn’t work very well) and a digital frame.
“Great theory,” said one user in the thread, while another gushed, “I love this.”
Another Bluey fan agreed: ‘Absolutely agree! I’m an 81 year old baby! I had my first baby in 2004 when I was 23 years old. This year he will turn 21 years old. So Bandit would be around my age give or take a few years!!’
Meanwhile, other dedicated viewers were eager to drill into the theory.
Some fans have questioned the theory that the series is set in the early 2000s because the show, which is set in Brisbane, features an animated skyline of real buildings that were built after 2017.
‘Bandit is a doctor, it takes a while to finish the studies for that. That being the case, it is possible that they waited to have children,” argued one fan.
Another viewer took issue with the idea that Bluey’s mom and dad, Bandit and Chilli, were in their twenties.
‘I think Bandit and Chili are in their 40s and have a more organized life than twenty-somethings typically have. And we know that Chili had some fertility issues, so it would make sense for them to have kids in their 30s and 20s,’ suggested another.
“The average age of a new mother in Australia is 29.8 years old, which means there are definitely older fathers,” said another fan who disagreed with the theory.
One attentive viewer also questioned the early 2000s setting due to a detail known to most Bluey fans.
“The animated Brisbane skyline has buildings built after 2017,” they posted in the thread.
Despite this, the question about Bandit’s age was resolved last October when the Browny Bear episode aired.
In the short scene, Bandit’s driver’s license can be seen with the date of birth October 25, 1978.

The animated children’s series has been at the top of the top ten most-streamed shows in the US for 112 weeks.
The figures were compiled earlier this month by Nielsen Ratings, which tracks viewership in the U.S., according to the Comicbook website.
According to the Nielsen survey, Bluey has been among the top ten streaming shows in the US since October 2022.
Bluey airs in more than 60 countries and all three seasons of the Emmy Award-winning cartoon are available on ABC iview.
Last month, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced that they will bring Bluey’s first animated feature film to the big screen, which will be written and directed by the show’s creator, Joe Brumm.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film seems like a natural extension of that,” Brumm said.
‘I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical film. “I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”
