Netherlands 2-2 Team GB: Danny Kerry’s men qualify for the hockey quarter-finals with one game to go after coming from two goals behind in a draw thanks to late efforts by Sam Ward
Team GB came in from two goals behind and then held on to death to equalize with fellow Pool B side the Netherlands and qualify for the quarter-finals of the men’s hockey event.
The Netherlands took the lead at the Oi Hockey Stadium with a great team move that was completed by Thierry Brinkman after a quick move over the top of the Team GB defence.
Jip Janssen doubled the Netherlands’ lead after a penalty corner when Danny Kerry’s squad was temporarily at 10 men after Zach Wallace was given a green card.

GB had 11 tries on the Dutch goal without cutting the deficit in half until Sam Ward finally scored with their 12th.
Ward was then back on target after hitting a penalty corner home to equalize for Team GB.
However, it was not all easy for GB at death, when the Dutch got a penalty corner with 36 seconds left on the clock.
The Dutch went on to win four penalty corners in the final passage of the game, but brave and desperate defense and the woodwork ensured GB earned the draw they needed to secure a top four place in Pool B.
GB’s last pool match at this summer’s Olympics is against Belgium on Friday.
