Netflix’s next rival unmasked as North Korea to air state TV across the world by autumn – complete with peppy military rallies, despot-devoted newsreaders and anti-West propaganda

North Korea is set to launch a new streaming service that will broadcast Kim Jong Un’s state television across the globe.

Shiwani TV is expected to launch this fall and will live stream Korean Central TV and its affiliate radio station, The telegraph reported.

The platform will offer viewers access to the dictatorship’s best soap operas, dramas, sitcoms and anti-Western propaganda for just £16 a month.

At least 50 people have already requested to be notified when registration opens, a spokesman revealed, noting that those interested are ‘mainly’ from the UK, US, Poland, Japan and South Korea.

Subscribers will be able to binge the state-run television channel, which broadcasts military parades, shows a steady stream of missiles and highlights reports from despot-devout newsreaders.

Shiwani TV will not pay fees to North Korea or have any contractual agreements with the communist nation, the channel’s spokesman added.

The new platform is understood to be the brainchild of the Chollima Front, a small Polish organization that claims to understand North Korea and its culture.

According to the newspaper, Chollima Front and its approximately 12 members want to ‘make verified information about the country available in the public space’.

In addition to news broadcasts showing bad headlines about all nations other than North Korea, subscribers will have access to a variety of state-sanctioned programs.

One expected offering is Our Neighbors, a sitcom set in a Pyongyang apartment and portraying a message that people loyal to the regime will be rewarded with a fashionable wardrobe and stylish household appliances.

Other offerings include soap operas with detailed narratives of heroic soldiers and workers dedicated to the Communist Party.

The channel will offer newscasts from anchor Ri Chun-Hee, who is known for her passionate and emotional commentary.

Sports fans will also be able to sample ‘censored footage’ of world-famous events, such as the Wimbledon Championships, months after they have taken place.

The North Korean embassy in Warsaw is reportedly “supportive” of the plan to launch the service later this year.

Shiwani TV will stream worldwide, including in the US and South Korea, where it could reportedly ‘violate national security laws’ and ‘be illegal to access’.

A spokesperson for the channel claimed that the service ‘operates within the laws of Poland, Canada and Germany’ and also ‘respects certain relevant North Korean laws’.

The Polish Embassy in the United States is aware of the impending launch, according to Radio Free Asiaand has alerted the ‘appropriate parties’.
