Corus Entertainment’s Waterside Studios has acquired the TV adaptation rights to two YA novels by Argentinian Marcela Citterio: The girl who didn’t want to be a princess And Uma ghost.
Toronto-based Waterside Studios will develop live-action, English-language series for a global young adult audience based on the novels from the creator and writer of Netflix’s Lady Voyeur series.
“Being able to work with Waterside Studios and Corus Entertainment to develop these characters and their stories into a TV series that gives them an innovative audiovisual story – a dimension that would otherwise not have been possible – is beyond my lifetime. to dream. Netflix’s psychological thriller Lady Voyeur (Olhar Indiscreto) starring Débora Nascimento and was produced for the streaming giant’s Brazilian service. Netflix picked it up before that Chica Vampiro (Vampire Girl), a Colombian teen telenovela produced by RCN Television and based on an original story by Citterio.
The Argentine novelist and screenwriter was also the creative force behind Nickelodeon’s telenovela adaptation I’m Frankie which in turn was based on her novel Yo Soy Franky.
Citterios The girl who didn’t want to be a princess follows 18-year-old Aurora, a Formula 1-obsessed girl who has no time for love until she falls in love with poor Tiziano, who is actually a prince in disguise from a neighboring island.
Uma ghost revolves around Wendy, a millionaire rebel and orphan who is sent to a new family where she is forced to sleep in their deceased daughter Uma’s room. Over time, Wendy discovers that her mission is to help the family heal and her new friend Uma transitions through the closet in their bedroom to life and love in The Ghost World.
The latest TV adaptations of Citterio novels follow streaming platforms as they increasingly target Spanish-speaking audiences around the world.
