Ti West's horror film Pearl appears on Netflix

Netflix fans will soon be able to enjoy a ‘demented and unnerving’ horror film on the streaming service.

The film Pearl – which is part of Ti West’s X-film series – premiered in September 2022.

The horror is a prequel to the March 2022 slasher X, which was followed by MaXXXine in July last year.

In August 2024, it was revealed that Pearl had landed on Netflix in the US and South America.

Now those in Britain can also watch it via the subscription service Subway.

The first part X follows the story of actress Mia Goth, who plays a young girl named Maxine and an older woman named Pearl.

Set in 1979, the horror follows a group who travel to a farm in the middle of rural Texas to film an adult movie.

Things change when their host finds out exactly what they’re doing there…

Pearl is the story of a psychotic girl who wants to escape life on a farm with her parents.

Mia reprized her role as the leading lady in the blockbuster.

The actress is joined by David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland and Emma Jenkins-Purro, among others.

Despite being released three years ago, the film has a very high rating of 93 percent on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

A number of critics shared their thoughts on the film on the site.

iNews critic Christina Newland said of Pearl, “This demented, charming, Wizard of Oz-esque horror is all the more disturbing because it doesn’t look like a horror movie.”

In the meantime ObserverWendy Ide added: “Goth is hugely entertaining throughout, but two particular scenes, both in which the camera rests solely on her face for an extended take, capture the full power of her unnerving talent.”

The independentClarisse Loughrey wrote, “Pearl’s torment is believable largely because Goth wants it on his own.”

“Her devotion to every strangled cry for attention, to every glassy deviation from reality, is unquestionable.”

Pearl is a big hit with Netflix fans in the US and South America.

Many took to social media to express how impressed they were.

One wrote on X: ‘Watched Pearl on Netflix and OMG. That was a build-up, which I love in a horror film.’
