Netflix is apparently planning a remake of Squid Game with western actors.
Squid Game is one of the most successful series of recent years: In a kind of battle royale with Korean children’s games, over 450 participants not only fight for a huge cash prize, but also for sheer survival.
After the enormous success, it’s not surprising that Netflix has further plans for Squid Game. In addition to the already confirmed season of the Korean series, a US remake is said to be in the works.
Squid Game reboot allegedly with prominent producers
What happened? In his podcast revealed the American film critic Jeff Sneider that he claims to have learned from a reliable source that a US remake of the successful series very real
should be.
But not only that: He also wants to know the responsible producer. According to Sneider, it should be none other than David Fincher. The thriller expert (Sieben, Fight Club) has worked closely with Netflix for years and is responsible for the hit series House of Cards and Mindhunter, among others. The director and producer was also involved in the animated anthology series Love, Deaths & Robots.
Fincher is currently working on the Netflix thriller The Killer, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton, which is due out on November 10, 2023. Whether he will then really take care of the realization of the Squid Game remake has not yet been confirmed.
By the way, a remake of your own series would not be a novelty for Netflix. The successful Spanish series Money Heist was relaunched for the Korean market.
If you prefer to stay with the original: After the cliff-hanger end of the first season, Squid Game will definitely get a second season, with the likeable main character Gi-hun playing an important role again. A possible release date is currently still a long way off, as filming is not scheduled to begin until this summer.
