Netflix subscribers are celebrating the arrival of Monk, one of the most beloved television shows of the 21st century, on the service.

The comedy crime series starred Tony Shalhoub, 70, as private detective Adrian Monk, who helped police with unsolved crimes even as he struggled with his own obsessive-compulsive disorder and a debilitating fear of germs.

The show, which ran for eight seasons from 2002 to 2009 on USA Network, was so successful with fans that Peacock revived the character for a follow-up film, The Last Case of Mr. Monk, in late 2023.

Now that Netflix has upgraded its offering with the classic comedy, fans of the series have expressed their excitement on social media, with many saying they plan to stick around to binge on Monk.

‘Netflix just made my day by adding Monk!!! Very very happy!!’ » exclaimed a fan.

“You just added Monk to Netflix!” The way I literally screamed when I saw it. I’m so happy,” another person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Others were simply focused on sharing the good news with their followers.

‘Monk is on Netflix. All. This is not a drill,” one fan wrote

Another added: “This probably won’t get any press as it’s an old show, but all eight seasons of The Brilliant Monk are on Netflix now.” You’ll thank me later…’

One fan said Monk’s arrival on Netflix was “the best thing to happen in months.”

Others were willing to go to extremes to free up time and binge all eight seasons of the classic series.

“All eight seasons of Monk on Netflix? Can someone break my leg so I have an excuse to stay home with Tony Shalhoub for a while?

Fans already received some good news late last year when Peacock revived Monk for the follow-up film The Last Case of Mr. Monk: A Monk Movie.

The streaming film reunited Shalhoub, who recently appeared in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with the original case as his character Adrian Monk came out of retirement to solve one last mystery.
