Netflix is celebrating the release of The Witcher season 3 later this month with an interactive maze and ice cream van ride across the UK. According to a report from Variety.
Although it is not uncommon for companies to prepare complex marketing campaigns before a major launch, this campaign seems a bit haphazard.
The Witcher is about witches, monster-slaying, and life mobile (so at least the tour part makes sense), but this campaign might seem a little strange to fans of the books or games, which don’t yet feature mazes or ice cream as central themes.
But new season trailers, including one just released during Summer Game Fest, mainly showed Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anja Chaltoura), and Ciri (Freya Allan) running around a maze, which likely served as the inspiration for the campaign. marketing from Netflix.
The synopsis reads: “The journey begins at the Biltene festival where the singers will guide you through the maze, but beware of the unexpected, there is a monster lurking inside.” Find your way out and be rewarded, as you digitally capture your moment of glory and savor your bravery in The Witcher Bathhouse.”
The Labyrinth itself will be open to the public for free in London from June 29 to July 2, which means it will be available on the same day as The Witcher Season 3 Episodes 1-5. The ice cream van will tour around 15 cities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on select dates in June and July.
Separate from the world of popular books and video games, the world of Netflix’s Witcher has expanded exponentially since its inception. In addition to the series’ planned seven seasons, there’s also an animated spinoff Nightmare of the Wolf and a prequel series, Blood Origin.
