Fresh off his triumph at the 2024 Golden Globes, Cillian Murphy, 47, is preparing to take on a new challenge.

According DeadlineThe actor will star in and produce the Netflix film, Steve, an adaptation of the novel ‘Shy’ by Max Porter.

Steve follows the journey of a struggling headmaster, played by Cillian, as he overcomes challenges at a last chance reform school.

Audiences will see the headmaster’s mental health put to the test as he struggles to keep the students in line.

The script, also written by Max, differs slightly from his novel, with the original protagonist being a 16-year-old student, of the same name, who remembers a night at school.

The actor shared his thoughts on the adaptation, saying, “The same events happen, we just look at them through a different lens.”

Cillian expressed his admiration for Max’s writing, revealing: “It’s something I’ve always pursued in writing; it’s something that has a real visceral effect on you, an emotional effect.”

With production set to begin this spring, Steve will officially launch Cillian’s production company, Big Things Films, which he co-founded with Alan Molone.

The star, nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA and SAG as a lead actor in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, will produce the film alongside Alan, while Tim Mielants, who worked on Peaky Blinders, will direct it.

It comes after the Irish actor fueled rumors of a Peaky Blinders return as he was reported to have had a secret meeting in Soho with the show’s creator Steven Knight.

Steven, 64, has given fans hope that Thomas Shelby’s Underworld could come to the big screen after recently revealing he had completed a script.

Cillian played Tommy in the hit TV show about a Birmingham gang, which aired its final series in 2022.

The prospects for a Peaky Blinders movie have, until now, been shrouded in secrecy, including who would star in it.

Following awards season success for his portrayal of physicist Robert Oppenheimer, it looks like Cillian could be preparing his next project.

Addressing rumors about a big screen version of Peaky Blinders in July, Cillian says he will “wait and see” what happens.

The actor told Radio Times: “That’s probably the worst thing about Peaky Blinders – being asked about the film all the time!”

‘I would love to make a film if there is more story to tell. I’ll wait and see, but I don’t have any updates for you on that.’

Cillian also spoke about how the show rose to fame.

He said: “It started as a small show on a Sunday night and grew very slowly and without hype, without billboards, without any advertising campaign.”

‘It just grew because people told other people to watch it. “I’m really proud that it has never stagnated and that each series has become richer and stronger than the last.”
