Neighbours star felt heartbroken when the soap ended

Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne says she was heartbroken when the Aussie soap ended as she shares her surprising reaction to the show’s upcoming revival on Freevee

The recent news that Neighbours will be revived on Amazon’s Freevee just months after its cancellation has sent shockwaves through the TV industry.

And the show’s cast have not held back their feelings after the shock announcement this week.

Actress Jackie Woodburne, 66, who played Susan Kennedy on the series, told the Herald Sun that she’s thrilled to see the series return because she was ‘heartbroken’ after it ended.

Jackie played the character Susan Kennedy for 28 years and felt it was ‘too raw’ to explore other acting opportunities until she had recovered from the soap ending. 

‘You don’t end a 28 year relationship, then get back on the dating circuit, you give yourself time,’ she explained.

‘On the day we finished, the grief and sadness was around those 200 jobs that were lost, it was for those people who looked forward to that half-hour of entertainment every day.’

‘I hope we continue to do what we’ve done so well, which is to try and tell relevant stories,’ she said

Jackie is now excited to get back on set when the revival begins shoot in April.

‘We’ll look through a lens of what’s current in the world and try to tell those stories.’

He shared the news with his 196,000 followers on Twitter, he said: ‘Neighbours has helped shine a light on Australian culture, provided endless opportunities for our industry and kept fans entertained for decades!’

The beloved soap is making a comeback as the producers, Fremantle, have secured a deal with Amazon Freevee, Prime Video and Network 10 as an international relaunch. 

The announcement is only months after the final which aired in July with an array of special guests from seasons gone by.
