NBC has unveiled an upcoming documentary that focuses on examples of same-sex relationships and sex transition in the animal kingdom.
Queer Planet will launch on June 6 as part of Peacock’s Pride Month celebrations and is narrated by actor Andrew Rannells.
The project is billed as a “one-of-a-kind nature documentary” and will explore “hidden LGBTQ+ communities among animals who have unconventional sexualities and genders,” according to Independent cable.
The documentary’s synopsis reads: “Go on a global journey exploring the rich diversity of animal sexuality, from flamboyant flamingos to pansexual primates, sex-changing clownfish, multi-gender fungi and everything in between.”
“This documentary observes extraordinary creatures, witnesses astonishing behaviors, and presents scientists who are questioning the traditional concept of what is natural when it comes to sex and gender.”

The Queer Planet trailer promises information about bisexual lions, gay penguins, and transgender creatures.
“Everything you were taught as a child is wrong,” says Australian author Bradley Trevor Greive in the trailer for the film, rated TV-14. “This is a strange planet.”
“Only in humans do we have such a stigma,” says biologist Antonia Forster.
“To be honest, we should probably all get laid a little more,” adds Greive.
Rannells states in the trailer’s voiceover that “the idea of having two fixed sexes is clearly passé.”
“It’s clear that no matter where you look on our planet, nature is full of strange surprises,” adds Rannells.
The trailer for the project, released on Thursday, quickly sparked fury and jokes among viewers.
