NBA star Kevin Love has selected a selection of his favorite works of art to be auctioned in a joint collaboration with Sotheby’s, as he reveals his love for art through largest global brokers of decorative art, jewelry and collectibles.
Love, 35, will curate the latest edition of Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated auction on September 28 in New York after curating a selection of eight superlative artworks that personally resonate with his collector’s vision.
The Miami Heat forward, who can also play center, has chosen a variety of media including photography, sculpture and painting, from expressionism, figuration to abstraction and action painting, presenting a broad vision of the post-war period as well as contemporary art.
Speaking about his personal taste in art, Love said: “I am fascinated by artists’ processes and what motivates them: their intention and their impact. What I look for is when a piece has a major narrative component and brings out of me something that I didn’t even know existed.
“Art is a discovery,” he added, defining his collector’s mantra. “I started collecting to fuel my constant quest for curiosity and it taught me to take things as they come, without fear or judgment. The more you learn, the more you realize you haven’t scratched the surface.

Among the paintings up for auction will be Ernie Barnes’ painting Club 55, listed at $800,000-$1.2 million.

Love is coming off an NBA Finals series loss to the Nuggets earlier this summer with the Heat.
Over the past decade, Love, who is nearing the end of his basketball career, has been an inspiration to many after winning an NBA championship with LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He has also earned five NBA All-Star selections and won an Olympic title. gold medal in 2012 and a FIBA World Championship in 2010.
The fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft is also trying to expand his influence off the court, as he is an activist committed to reducing stigma and normalizing the public conversation about mental health. Love founded an eponymous fund in 2018 to inspire people to live healthy lives while providing the tools needed to achieve physical and emotional well-being.
He has received the EPSY Arthur Ashe Courage Award, the Child Mind Institute’s Change Maker Award, the NBA Cares Assists Award and has been a finalist for the EPSY Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award since working to promote mental health awareness .
“We want to educate as many kids as possible to understand that there are ways to express their struggles other than verbally,” Love said of the correlation between her activism and the art world. “We encourage vulnerability through photography, creative writing, all different forms of art and music – fostering community through community.”
