Utah Jazz second-year player Taylor Hendricks emerged from their 110-102 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday after a freak accident in the third quarter.
While executing a counterattack, the striker appeared to take a wrong step before collapsing on his right leg and unable to get up.
When Hendricks tried to get up, his lower right leg bent horribly to the side, which was clearly captured on the broadcast. The players on the court are seen immediately noticing the break and walking away in unison.
Medical staff tended to Hendricks before he was stretchered off the court and the game continued.
The Jazz later announced that Hendricks suffered a fractured right fibula and a dislocated ankle. After the game, the team added that updates on his status will be provided “when appropriate.”
“It’s hard to take,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said of the postgame incident. ‘He has worked very hard. He’s a great boy. “So we’re really trying to focus on him, on his health, on keeping his spirits up, as he begins the road to recovery.”
