A widower has asked the Federal Government to inject more funds into mental health, claiming that her husband would still be alive if she had received more support.
Nathan O’Toole, 51, took his life after a long battle against depression caused by a tragedy that witnessed 13 years ago and never recovered.
His tragic death on January 8 occurred only one week after he and his wife Karen Swan celebrated their eleventh wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Swan, from Hill Top in the highlands of southern NSW, believes that her husband would still be here with her and her two daughters if she had received more help.
“I really think he would have been saved with more support,” the 52 -year -old player Mail Australia told Friday.
‘There is not enough mental health aid in Australia, for men in particular. There must be more support.
‘How much money does our government spend on other things? Our money really needs to be redirected to places where it is vital. ‘
The battle of Mr. O’Toole with depression began in the most tragic circumstances more than a decade ago when he made a discovery that despaired it.
Karen and Nathan were married for 11 years before they lost their battle against depression

“This is the seventh male suicide that has touched our lives and its identical twin committed suicide 13 years ago and found it,” said Swan.
“He never recovered from that, in terms of mental health.”
Since he discovered his twins, Mr. O’Toole, unlike many men, tried to achieve and obtain help, but still faced a constant battle with his depression.
More than 3,200 Australians died of suicide in 2022 and Swan believes that mental health services could only do a lot with limited resources.
“He tried to receive help on numerous occasions and had an attempt at suicide in which they put it in a mental health unit in a public hospital and left him sober, interviewed him and sent him home by saying that there was nothing wrong,” Mrs. Mrs. Swan said.
‘I think there is something wrong when you try overdose on purpose.
‘The system is so overloaded and the support is not there for anyone who needs it. We spent $ 16,000 in a private health center for him, but he was still chasing demons.
Mr. O’Toole leaves his wife already his two daughters Marlee, 30, and Brodie, 19, who understandably fight with the giant loss.

We are staggering, absolutely staggering. My daughters are really broken, “Swan said.
“No family deserves to go through this.”
The family and friends attended Mr. O’Toole on Thursday and a GOFUNDME Page has been configured to help the family pay costs.
They had no insurance or savings to pay the funeral, but an anonymous donor had reduced $ 2,200 for the cause.
