WAG on the run! Nathan Buckley’s girlfriend Alex Pike leaves him in Melbourne as she escapes Covid lockdown by jumping the border to Albury

There will be no lockdown hugs for Magpies coach Nathan Buckley after his girlfriend Alex Pike jumps across the border for Victoria’s Covid lockdown.

The cosmetic nurse, 44, fled Melbourne just before the seven-day statewide took effect on Thursday at midnight, and now resides at her home in Albury, New South Wales.

She shared several posts on Instagram on Friday after arriving in NSW and joked that she had to leave Victoria quickly before Gladys Berejiklian ‘locked me out’.

Alex posted a photo of her kitchen and living room in her Albury home, as well as a video of one of her sons getting ready for school.

She then uploaded a screenshot of a text message exchange with a friend, who asked her, “You’re in Albury?”

The mother of three replied, “I had to go before Gladys locked me out.”

Albury is a major regional city on the border of New South Wales and Victoria with a population of 93,603, as of the 2018 census.

As Alex settled into life across the border, Collingwood, the great Nathan, 48, looked a little gloomy as he took a stroll through closed-off Melbourne.

Wearing a face mask, navy blue shorts and a blue hoodie, he saw shopping and getting a takeaway coffee at a cafe.

The entire state of Victoria is once again immersed in the coronavirus as a result of a growing number of cases, with seven million people staying at home for a week.

The number of active cases in the state rose to 39 on Friday, with an additional five locations – including a downtown pub and a suburban sports bar – added to the list of sites at high risk of exposure to Covid-19.

Alex and Nathan, who have known each other since the beginning of the year, were photographed together for the first time on Wednesday.

The romance between the new couple is said to be ‘effortless’.

‘They are happy. It’s okay. It’s just really easy and really comfortable. They have a real bond, ” a friend of the couple told The Herald Sun last week.

The source added that Alex isn’t looking for fame, nor is he ‘discouraged’ by the attention you get when you’re a WAG.

‘They just like normal things, yoga, natural health, keeping fit and staying positive,’ they said.

Alex is a mother of three based in South Yarra, just outside Melbourne’s CBD, but also has a home in Albury.

The couple’s relationship emerged just weeks after the champion midfielder announced his divorce from his 18-year-old wife, Tania Minnici, last December.
