Conor McGregor has insisted he “isn’t happy” with Dana White’s brutal rebuke over a potential trilogy fight for the Irishman and rival Nate Diaz.

McGregor, who has yet to secure a return fight since breaking his left tibia and fibula against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, had expressed interest in fighting twice this year, including a fight against his former rival Nate Diaz.

However, UFC chief White had other ideas when he addressed the potential fight during the UFC 299 post-fight press conference.

“Yeah, I’m not going to fight that fight,” White told reporters at the press conference, putting to rest rumors that he was eager to see the two fight one last time.

Now, in response to White, McGregor has hit back and insisted he’s not happy that the UFC chief immediately poured “cold water” on the fight.

Speaking to talkSPORT, McGregor said: “Obviously I have the (Nate) Diaz trilogy. That’s what I said about The Sphere.

“You know, we threw cold water on that publicly from the start, and I wasn’t happy about that.

“So I need discussion or conversation because if I lose interest, if I don’t get anything in return, I fall asleep.”

Despite interest in a fight with Diaz, McGregor looked set to face Michael Chandler this year, but the fight has yet to be confirmed, with the Irishman expressing frustration at the lack of action in the sport.

He has expressed his desire to face Chandler for several months, but it appears the fight is making little progress in terms of confirmation for this year.

“I wish (this Diaz fight) Mexican Independence Day in the Sphere,” McGregor wrote on social media this week. “Chandler, June. Díaz, September. I made it known.

McGregor emphasized that he wants to fight Chandler at UFC 303 during International Fight Week.

On New Year’s Eve, he released a video announcing a supposed 185-pound bout against Iron Mike at the week’s culminating pay-per-view event.

The clash between McGregor and Chandler was announced with a season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2023.

The two men served as opposing coaches on the UFC reality show, ostensibly to hype McGregor’s highly anticipated return.

Diaz, meanwhile, beat McGregor by submission in March 2016, before the Irishman got his revenge and won the rematch by decision in August.
