NASA has confirmed that the first private spacecraft to land on the Moon has “turned on its side.”
Intuitive Machines had previously received data that Odysseus was standing with all six feet on the ground, but updates revealed that the lander is located in the lunar landscape.
The company noticed that one of the legs got caught, probably in a rock, causing it to fall on its side.
CEO Steve Altemus explained that he and his team were not deliberately misleading the public by sharing on X that Odysseus had a “soft landing,” but rather that the team was working with “old data.”
This is a developing story… More to come.
