The 61-year-old Republican was arrested Wednesday night after a couple told police she followed them home, stopped her car on the lawn in front of their home and appeared intoxicated.

“I think the mayor is drunk and she just literally… oh, she just ran over our mailbox,” the 911 caller reportedly said. WBBH‘She is complaining to the mayor… I don’t know who he is.’

Heitmann is then heard in the background saying that she is “Mayor Teresa Heitmann.”

When one of the officers referred to her as “mayor,” Heitmann replied, “No, don’t call me mayor. I’m Teresa Heitmann right now, I’m not the mayor.”

Heitmann reportedly told officers the couple had cut him off in traffic.

He also claimed he had only drank one glass of wine but failed a field sobriety test, leading to his arrest.

The mayor then agreed to take a breathalyzer test at the Naples Prison Center.

His breath test results were .155 and .169, above the legal limit in Florida, which is .08.

Heitmann was released from jail on $500 bail on Thursday.

She has yet to comment on her arrest.

Naples City Manager Jay Boodheshwar said in a statement: “City employees were saddened to learn of the incident involving the mayor. We know this is a difficult time for Mayor Heitmann and we will give her the space she needs.

“The Naples community can rest assured that our City team is committed and dedicated to serving our residents. I have 100% confidence that our City employees will not allow this incident to impact the delivery of services to our community.”

Heitmann was first elected in 2020 and re-elected as mayor last March.
